Review – James Sinclair’s Wallbag Training DVD

Review – James Sinclair’s Wallbag Training DVD

In this DVD, the United Kingdom Wing Chun Kung Fu Association have created an essential accompaniment to a unique, but often overlooked piece of Wing Chun apparatus: the wallbag. The DVD is the second in the series of instructional videos produced by the UKWCKFA and features Master James Sinclair.

Overall, this DVD is jam-packed with information and will serve as a superb tool for any lineage of Wing Chun.

The first 30 minutes of this DVD focuses on wallbag specific warm ups, which then moves on to some sensible safety advice on its usage. This is useful stuff. The rest of the nearly two-hour film is taken up with detailed explanations of the many strikes available in the Wing Chun arsenal.

Each lesson is interspersed with examples of striking applications, with the various UKWCFA instructors delivering their own section of study. James Sinclair and his students deliver this information in a clear, confident and friendly manner making the DVD a joy to watch.

There are many sections focusing on topics such as centreline, chops, chainpunching and inch power, and it is helpfully split into chapters to enable the viewer to easily access desired information with the click of the remote. I must admit that I wasn’t as keen on the “Scenario Applications” section as I always find these demonstrations a bit pre-arranged for my own taste.

Overall, this DVD is jam-packed with information and will serve as a superb tool for any lineage of Wing Chun, and if this is the quality of the rest of the UKWCKFA instructional products, then I will certainly be taking a closer look. But first, I’m off to beat the living hell out of my own wallbag!
