WCI Review - Wing Chun Universe - Siu Nim Tao Form & Applications

Running for almost an hour, Wing Chun Universe: Siu Nim Tao Form & Applications is presented by Sifu Alfred Neudorfer and Sifu Rosa Bannera and does as advertised.

The video begins with Sifu Alfred demonstrating the form, which feels quite different in action and intent from the Siu Nim Tao of Ip Man Wing Chun.

After presenting the form, Sifu Alfred and Sifu Rosa showcase nine application sequences from the Siu Nim Tao form. However, they do not explain where these sequences come from or which parts of the form they relate to, leaving the viewer wondering about their connection to the form.

Each application is shown repetitively – being repeated ten or more times per sequence. While repetition can reinforce learning, the sheer number of them becomes tiring. Less reiteration would have sufficed, allowing for either more applications to be covered or to provide better explanations of the form, instead of excessive repetition of the same application.

After demonstrating the applications, the first three are shown again in a Chi Sau setting. Once the applications have been covered, Sifu Rosa presents the Siu Nim Tao form, previously demonstrated by Sifu Alfred at the beginning of the video.

The final 15 minutes are dedicated to interviews – first with Sifu Alfred, followed by Sifu Rosa. The interviewer, Alfred Tucci, the CEO of Budo International, discusses with them the fundamental aspects of their approach to Wing Chun.

This video should appeal to those keen on the Wing Chun style of Sifu Neudorfer and Sifu Ferrante Bannera. Their interpretation of Wing Chun is certainly unique and differs from other branches I have encountered.
