WCI Review - Darrell Jordan / Ving Tsun Collective - A Seminar by Steve Goericke
This video was filmed in 1995 and is around two hours long. Unfortunately, the image and audio quality are not great. The seminar appears to take place in what looks like Sifu Goericke's home gym, and a handful of people are present for it. We don't get any introduction or information about Sifu Goericke, but a quick Google search reveals that he comes from a Moy Yat lineage.
It seems that a camera was positioned somewhere in the gym to film the whole thing, so no one is holding the camera, which would have meant a better look at the action. The video is basically Sifu Goericke playing Chi Sao with the people attending the seminar while he explains what he is doing along with Chi Sao principles such as "forward pressure" and "centreline control".
The video is quite dark, not so dark that it is not watchable but dark enough to make it unpleasant to watch in its entirety. Because of the lack of a person holding the camera, it is often not clear what is happening, especially when the people playing Chi Sao are far away from the camera.
The video starts with Sifu Goericke giving a speech of around eight minutes about Wing Chun being a concept-based art that is open to evolution and development. He then moves on to practising Chi Sao with each person at the seminar while the others watch and listen to Sifu Goericke's comments and tips.
Although the seminar might have been useful to the people touching hands with Sifu Goericke, it is largely unhelpful to anyone watching the video due to the poor camera work and the lack of effort to make the seminar accessible to the viewers. The video is not divided into any chapters. The actual seminar seemed to lack structure, resulting in a monotonous presentation that lacks variety and a clear purpose.
