WCI Review - Randy Williams - Chee Sau Concept & Strategy Part 1: Single Stick & Rolling
As the title suggests, this video deals with Chi Sao and, more specifically, Single Sticky Hands and rolling. Presented by Sifu Randy Williams, it is roughly 50 minutes long, with high quality video and audio.
Anyone familiar with the videos of Randy Williams knows that they are always packed with information, and instruction is detailed and precise. Sifu Williams is assisted in this presentation by several well-known instructors, including the late Ted Wong, who was considered by many as the protégé of Bruce Lee. Ron Balicki, a well-known martial arts practitioner and actor, also appears to assist Sifu Williams.
The video starts with a brief introduction and then moves straight to the action. Single Sticky Hands are explained in detail, making it ideal for beginners in Chi Sao who need detailed step-by-step instructions. An added benefit is that the exercises are often shown in slow motion, which makes it a lot easier for those seeking to learn the basics of Chi Sao.
Sifu Williams has a rather large and complex curriculum in the way he teaches Wing Chun, so this video is much more than the ordinary Single Sticky Hand drill and rolling. Several variations of the Single Sticky Hand drill are shown—some of them involve Jao Sao (or "Running Hand"), and others involve performing Single Sticky Hands or rolling while practising footwork.
After both Single Sticky Hand and rolling have been explained in detail, the video concludes with a demonstration of the Lop Sao drill within Chi Sao. The Lop Sao drill is not explained with words; instead, it is demonstrated through action only.
This is a very good video for anyone interested in an introduction to Chi Sao. It is only Part 1, so I assume Part 2 continues with a lot more information about Chi Sao, including strikes, traps and so on.
