Leo Au Yeung - Wing Chun Second Form: Chum Kiu cover

Sifu Leo Au Yeung enjoys huge respect within the Wing Chun community and learnt Wing Chun from several notable instructors, including Ip Chun and Samuel Kwok. This video relates to Chum Kiu, which is the second empty-hand form of Ip Man Wing Chun.

Divided into three parts, the video is around 35 minutes long. The first part of the video covers the first section of Chum Kiu, and demonstrates the applications and various drills. In parts two and three, Sifu Leo discusses the second and third sections of the form, respectively. All three parts demonstrate applications and drills relating to the corresponding sections of the Chum Kiu form.

The first part of the video lasts about 15 minutes and starts with Sifu Leo demonstrating the first section of the form. He then demonstrates applications and drills for this section of Chum Kiu with his students. While turning applications and a drill are shown, not much time is devoted to turning, and there are no detailed explanations, even though it is a critical skill in Wing Chun. Also shown are applications and drills for Fak Sau, Tok Sau, Lan Sau, turning Bong Sau and "Pin Hand".

The second part is roughly ten minutes and follows the same structure; a demonstration of the second section of the form, followed by applications of the moves and corresponding drills. This is a nice structure that is easy to follow. The applications and drills relate to stepping, the front kick, stepping Bong Sau, and the uppercut.

The final part relates to the third section of Chum Kiu. As Sifu Leo demonstrates the last section of Chum Kiu, he shows different applications and drills, such as one with the Wing Chun low kick. In reality, what Sifu Leo refers to as a low kick in Wing Chun, is a cross stomp or oblique kick to the knee. Low Bong Sau is also explained and demonstrated, as is a low Pak Sau and the sidekick.

The video and audio quality is good, and it is an easy-to-watch instructional video. There is no way 35 minutes can cover all the applications of Chum Kiu. The video is not very detailed, but it does a good job of summarising Chum Kiu and its applications, according to the system of Sifu Leo Au Yeung.
